CHRISM MASS – Sacred Heart Cathedral

Starts: Tuesday, April 3rd 2012 at 5:00 pm
Ends: Tuesday, April 3rd 2012 at 6:00 pm

We celebrate this liturgy in Holy Week, when the saving events of the Lord's paschal mystery are commemorated. If you never attended the Chrism Mass, you're missing one of the most solemn and significant liturgies of our church.

During the Mass, which is celebrated by Bishop Monroe and all the priests of the diocese, Bishop Monroe will bless the oil of the sick and the oil of catechumen and consecrate the oil of chrism which will be used in the parishes of the diocese throughout the year. This Mass also acknowledges the ministry of priests as they renew the commitments they made at their ordination and receive the prayers and support of the people. This Mass, therefore, expresses the fullness of the bishop's priesthood and the close bond between the bishop and his priests and gathers the faithful of the diocese at their mother church with their shepherd to prepare for celebrations of Christ in all our churches throughout the year.
